To start with what is Phishing? According to Wikipedia; Phishing is a form of social engineering where attackers deceive people into revealing sensitive information or installing malware such as ransomware.
When an overcurious internet user clicks a malicious link sent by a cyber attacker and go ahead to input their credentials, the result is that sensitive data such as social media login info (username and password) or credit/debit card details are been received by the attacker.
The attached image shows what happen at hackers’-side of the terminal when you click on a phishing link.
There are some other important personal data that are given away indirectly ( details not typed by the victim but are automatically received by the attacker such as the IP address which can be use to identify the location of the victim 🎯)
Below are prevention tips against Phishing Attacks;
1. Recognize the signs of phishing
2. Don’t respond to a phishing email
3. Report suspicious messages to your email provider
4. Avoid sharing personal information
4. Use strong passwords e.g Infowithcyber901$@-:) do not use your date of birth or names that can easily be guess by an attacker
5. Never click on unknown links or attachments
6. Be wary of fake unsubscribe messages
7. Stay informed by visiting Infosecwithcybersam blog often
8. Use two-factor authentication or multi-factor
authentication (MFA)
